In the field of construction, we conducted a research project with the FBK foundation in Trento and the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Bozen/Bolzano in which simulation and recognition techniques were tested. Using deep neural networks trained on simulated and real data, the team was able to match the construction phases of the project plan with the real situation and determine the recognition accuracy rate. They started from a BIM model to build realistic 3D simulations of the various construction stages, which then allowed them to achieve accuracies of up to 98 per cent. These positive results motivate further research and development of a software application, especially in light of the interest shown by industry. Attention was also paid to the methodologies for surveying the status of activities in the field, comparing with companies in the construction industry to better understand the tools and operational processes used in complex projects.
